Thinking about replacing your outdated and inefficient windows? When it comes to replacement windows, Dallas homeowners count on the experienced professionals at Center Point Renovations. Our goal is to provide our customers with a hassle-free DFW window replacement and part of that is informing them to make the decision that works best for them. If you’re considering window replacement, you’ll first need to measure them so you know what size window you’ll need. Check out our tips below for properly measuring your own windows.

Measuring the Width

To measure the width of your windows, you need to measure three points between the jams:  top, bottom, and middle of the window opening. When you’re taking this measurement, be sure to measure from the surface of the jambs and not from the trim strips or parting beads of your old window. When determining the width, use the smallest of the three measurements you’ve taken.

Measuring the Height

Find the height of your window by measuring the high point of your window sill—which is the surface that’s closest to the inside of your window—to the top of your window opening. Again, you’ll need to take three measurements:  one at the left side, one at the right side, and one in the center. Determine the height by using the smallest of these three measurements.

Measuring the Depth

When measuring the depth of your windows, be sure to ignore parting strips and pulleys as these will be removed for your DFW window replacement. You must have an opening depth of at least 3 ¼ inches between the interior window trim and the exterior blind stop strip.
